Microsoft has admitted it wrongly reported a Windows 11 VPN problem as fixed in the October updates. Some staff working remotely may still be unable to connect.
- What it is: Always On VPN connections can get stuck on "Connecting" or fail after a first failed attempt.
- Who is affected: Windows 11 24H2 and later devices that installed the September 2026 updates and use automatic VPN protocol selection.
- The risk: Remote staff may lose access to the office network and business systems.
- Workaround: Your IT provider can change the VPN profile to a single protocol (SSTP only or IKEv2 only).
- Fix status: Microsoft says a permanent fix is planned in an update in the coming weeks.
