Microsoft has begun rolling out Windows 11 version 26H2, and with it, Windows settings backup is now switched on by default for eligible devices.
- What it is: The 26H2 update installs quickly using the same small download and quick restart as monthly security updates.
- Who is affected: Computers running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2. The rollout is gradual over the coming months, and some devices may be held back for compatibility reasons.
- Settings backup: Where an administrator has not set a policy, eligible devices will now back up Windows settings automatically. Any policy you have already set is respected.
- Action needed: Check whether automatic settings backup suits your business, and set the policy in Intune or Group Policy if you want to control it.
We recommend testing 26H2 on a small group of machines before rolling it out across your business. Source: Microsoft Windows message centre.
