Google is introducing "skills" in Gemini, reusable sets of instructions your team can apply to any request, and these will gradually replace the existing Gems feature.

• What it is: Skills let staff save custom instructions and combine several in a single Gemini conversation.
• Who gets it: Business and Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus editions. Workspace skills are for users aged 18 and over.
• Key dates: Skills start appearing in Workspace on 5 October 2026 and in the Gemini app on 13 October, with rollout finishing by mid-November.
• Gems: Existing Gems move into Settings on 17 November, and are disabled for business accounts from 1 March 2027. They convert automatically to draft skills.
• Good to know: Skills do not sync between the Gemini app and Workspace, so they must be created in each place.
