From 29 September 2026, new Google Meet settings for "Take notes for me" start taking effect. For some plans, Gemini will begin automatically taking notes in meetings with three or more people unless an administrator changes the default.
- What it is: A new option that switches on automatic AI note-taking only for meetings with three or more participants.
- Who is affected: Business Standard and Business Plus customers will have this setting turned on by default. It is off by default for Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus and Frontline Plus plans.
- The risk: Meetings that include confidential, HR, legal or client-sensitive discussions may be summarised and stored automatically without anyone deliberately choosing to do so.
- Early adopters: Organisations that tested this through Google's Gemini Alpha program may already have the setting enabled and should review it.
- What to do: Administrators should review the setting in the Google Admin console before 29 September. Staff can also change their own default in Meet settings once the new option rolls out.
We recommend deciding now whether automatic meeting notes suit your business, rather than letting the default decide for you.
