Microsoft is rolling out an update that extends its data loss prevention protection beyond Microsoft 365 into apps like Google Workspace, Salesforce, Dropbox and AWS.

• What it is: Microsoft Purview's data loss prevention (DLP) policies can now monitor and protect sensitive data stored in popular non-Microsoft business apps, not just Microsoft 365.
• Who is affected: businesses using Microsoft Purview alongside other cloud apps such as Google Workspace, Box, Salesforce, Dropbox, ServiceNow, AWS or Cisco Webex.
• What the risk is: without this coverage, sensitive data sitting in these connected apps has been outside the reach of your Microsoft 365 data protection policies.
• What to do: the feature is rolling out worldwide from early September 2026 through to late October. If you already run Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps file policies for the same apps, turn these off first to avoid conflicting rules.
