Telstra: Planned Upgrades Causing Regional WA Outages

Telstra is carrying out network upgrades in regional Western Australia that are causing daily outages of up to eight hours, disrupting phone, EFTPOS and emergency contact for local businesses.

  • What it is: Scheduled 4G and 5G upgrade work in the Gnowangerup area, running through August with daily outage windows of up to eight hours.
  • Who is affected: Businesses and residents in the affected regional area relying on Telstra mobile coverage for calls, EFTPOS and internet access.
  • The risk: EFTPOS terminals and mobile-dependent services stop working during outage windows, and Triple Zero calls may need to route through alternative networks if available.
  • What to do: Affected businesses should have a backup plan for taking payments, such as a manual EFTPOS process, and confirm Wi-Fi calling is enabled on staff phones during the outage period.

If your business operates in an area affected by planned network works, we recommend checking Telstra's outage page and having a contingency plan in place before works begin.
