Google is turning on automatic note-taking in Google Meet by default for some Workspace plans, which is worth knowing before your next meeting.
- What it is: Meet's built-in AI note-taking feature will automatically activate for any meeting with three or more people, generating a written summary and notes without anyone needing to switch it on.
- Who is affected: Business Standard and Business Plus customers, where the setting is switching to ON by default. Enterprise and Education plans remain OFF by default.
- The risk: Staff and external meeting guests may not realise notes are being taken and shared automatically, which raises privacy and confidentiality questions, particularly in meetings involving clients or sensitive information.
- What action is needed: Business Standard and Business Plus admins should decide whether automatic note-taking suits their business and adjust the setting in the Admin console if not.
We recommend business owners on these plans review this setting before it rolls out, rather than finding out about it mid-meeting.
