Microsoft is investigating a service issue where some users cannot schedule Teams meetings from the classic Outlook desktop program. The problem does not affect the new Outlook, Outlook on the web, or scheduling directly within Teams.
- What it is: A recent Microsoft service update introduced an incompatibility in how the Teams Meeting add-in connects to the Teams client when Outlook starts up.
- Who is affected: Users running the classic (older) Outlook desktop app, particularly on newly set up computers or freshly configured Outlook profiles.
- What you will see: The Teams Meeting button may be missing or fail to add meeting details when creating a calendar invite.
- Workarounds: Schedule meetings from the Teams calendar, from Outlook on the web, or from the new Outlook app until Microsoft completes its fix.
This is a Microsoft service issue, not a problem with your computer, and no local changes are required. We recommend using one of the workarounds above in the meantime. If your staff rely heavily on classic Outlook for meeting bookings and need a hand switching methods, contact us and we will walk you through it. Microsoft is publishing progress updates through the Microsoft 365 service health dashboard, and a summary of the incident is available via the published service advisory.
