Google has rolled out two security-focused updates to Google Workspace this month that improve administrator visibility and tighten data sharing controls. Both updates are automatic — no configuration is required to receive them — but admins should review their current settings to make sure they align with your organisation's policy.
- Admin password reset alerts expanded: The existing "Super Admin password reset" alert has been broadened to cover password resets for all administrator roles within your organisation, not just super admins. Admins will now receive an alert any time a privileged account password is changed, enabling faster response to potential account compromise or unauthorised changes.
- Google Groups privacy tightened: Google has introduced stricter internal and external member classifications for Groups, clearer visual indicators when a group contains external members, and additional controls over who can add external users. This reduces the risk of sensitive group communications being inadvertently shared outside your organisation.
- Who is affected: All Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers. The changes roll out automatically — no admin action is required to receive them.
- What to review: We recommend admins open the Google Admin console, check the Alerts section to confirm admin password reset notifications are active, and review Groups settings to ensure external sharing controls are configured correctly for your organisation.
