Google Workspace: Gemini Customize Hub Adds Connected Apps

Google has added a Customize menu to the Gemini app that lets staff set up personal skills and link Gemini to other apps. Administrators should know what it allows before staff start connecting services.

  • What it is: A single hub where users can create custom skills (for example, a preferred writing tone or response layout) and connect Google apps plus more than 40 outside services.
  • Who is affected: All Google Workspace customers. The rollout began on 13 October and can take up to 15 days to appear.
  • The risk: Connected apps can let Gemini reach business data held in other services. Most connections are currently limited to US English, but staff can link them now.
  • Admin controls: Review connected apps and third-party integrations in the Admin console under Apps, Additional Google services, Gemini. Google has not said whether these features are on by default.

We recommend administrators check their Gemini settings and Marketplace app allowlist this week, and tell staff which connections are approved for business data.
