Google is rolling out AI Inbox in Gmail to paid Workspace users. It suggests to-dos and summarises key email topics, and administrators cannot switch it off.
- What it is: AI Inbox pulls action items, deliverables and deadlines out of email conversations, and summarises decisions and status changes across long threads.
- Who is affected: Users on eligible paid editions, including Business Standard and Plus and Enterprise plans. For now it is available only to users in the US with the language set to US English, so most Australian users will not see it yet.
- Timing: Rapid Release domains began receiving it on 12 October 2026. Scheduled Release domains start on 26 October 2026, with up to 15 days for it to appear.
- Admin controls: Google has stated there is no admin setting for this feature.
Businesses with privacy or data-handling policies should review how AI features that read email content fit those rules. We can help you assess this ahead of the feature reaching Australian accounts.
