Google has introduced a new beta feature that keeps PowerPoint presentations encrypted the moment they are imported into Google Slides, adding an extra layer of protection for sensitive content.
- What it is: PowerPoint files can now be imported and converted into client-side encrypted Google Slides, meaning the content is encrypted before it ever reaches Google's servers.
- Who is affected: Businesses on Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Standard and Plus, Frontline Plus, or Assured Controls plans that regularly move files between Microsoft and Google formats.
- What the risk is: Without this, converting a sensitive PowerPoint file into Slides previously meant the content was briefly unencrypted during processing.
- What action is needed: Eligible businesses need to register for the beta through their Workspace admin console before the feature becomes available to staff.
If your business regularly handles sensitive presentations across Microsoft and Google tools, we recommend asking your IT provider whether this beta is worth joining.
