Google is rolling out several updates to Workspace this month, with the biggest changes centred on its Gemini AI assistant and admin reporting tools.
- Custom instructions for Gemini: From 5 September, users can set personal instructions that Gemini will apply consistently across Workspace apps such as Docs, Gmail and Chat.
- Gemini usage reporting: From 7 September, admins gain visibility into Gemini adoption within Google Chat through the Gemini reports dashboard, useful for tracking how staff are actually using the tool.
- Meet hardware controls: A refreshed touch controller interface for meeting rooms begins rolling out from 10 September.
- Who is affected: All Google Workspace customers; some features arrive first for Scheduled Release domains before reaching Rapid Release domains.
None of these changes require action from most businesses, but admins reviewing AI usage policies should note the new reporting tools becoming available this month.
