Office 365: New Security and Device Management Tools

Microsoft released a batch of updates this month covering identity security, device onboarding and remote support, alongside changes to how its security tools are packaged.

  • What it is: A set of Microsoft 365 and security platform updates, including Entra Tenant Governance, Windows Autopilot device association, and Windows Unattended Support with Remote Sign-In.
  • Who is affected: Businesses using Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, particularly those managing multiple tenants or onboarding new devices regularly.
  • What is changing: Entra Tenant Governance gives a single view across multiple tenants to spot security gaps. IT support staff can now remotely sign in to a device to help a user without them needing to be present. Microsoft Defender Threat Intelligence has been folded into Defender and Sentinel, and Defender for Cloud Apps data loss prevention is moving into Microsoft Purview.
  • What action is needed: No immediate action required, but device management and security admin workflows will shift over the coming months as these consolidations complete.

We recommend keeping an eye on your Microsoft 365 admin centre notices as these changes roll out, particularly if you rely on Defender or Purview for compliance reporting.
