Google has begun rolling out a new canvas view in Sheets along with improvements to how Excel files are imported, changes that will appear gradually across Workspace accounts over the coming weeks.

• What it is: A new "canvas" layout in Google Sheets, plus improved handling of Excel files, so tables and pivot tables now import into Sheets with their original formatting intact.
• Who is affected: All Google Workspace customers and personal Google account users, with a gradual rollout over up to 15 days for Rapid and Scheduled Release domains.
• What to expect: No action is required. Staff may notice a new option in Sheets and cleaner results when opening Excel files, but existing spreadsheets and workflows are not affected.
