Progress Software, the company behind the popular ShareFile file-sharing platform, has told customers running on-premises Storage Zone Controllers to shut those servers down immediately following what it describes as a "credible external security threat".

• What it is: Progress Software identified a credible threat targeting ShareFile Storage Zone Controllers, the on-premises Windows servers some businesses use to store and manage ShareFile data locally.
• Who is affected: Only organisations running on-premises Storage Zone Controllers. Standard cloud-only ShareFile accounts are not affected.
• What's the risk: No patch is currently available, and Progress has not disclosed technical details of the threat. Affected accounts have been temporarily disabled as a precaution.
• What to do: If your business runs a ShareFile Storage Zone Controller, shut down the Windows server hosting it immediately and wait for further guidance from Progress Software before bringing it back online.
