Google Workspace has finished rolling out stricter classification rules for Google Groups, adding clearer controls over who can share group content with people outside your business.

• What it is: Groups are now clearly labelled as "internal" or "external", with a visible indicator whenever a group contains members from outside the organisation.
• Who is affected: Any business using Google Groups for team distribution lists, shared inboxes, or collaboration with external partners.
• What the risk is: Without reviewing these settings, staff may unknowingly add external contacts to what should be an internal group, exposing internal discussions or files to outsiders.
• What to do: Admins can now restrict who is allowed to add external members to a group, either admins only or admins and end users, from the Admin console.
