Telstra experienced a major mobile network outage across Australia today, leaving customers unable to make calls or use mobile data in every state.
- What happened: A fault affecting mobile calls and data connections hit Telstra's network from the early hours of the morning, with reports across every mainland capital city.
- Who is affected: Telstra mobile customers nationwide, along with virtual network operators that run on the Telstra network including Aldi Mobile, Boost Mobile, Tangerine, and Belong. Fixed-line NBN services were not affected.
- What the risk is: Beyond the inconvenience, the outage disrupted train services in Victoria and New South Wales, and affected Triple Zero emergency calls in Western Australia.
- What to do: Telstra reports the network has largely recovered, with around 90 percent of calls and data restored. If your business relies solely on a Telstra mobile connection, it is worth having a backup option, such as a service on a different network, for next time.
We recommend businesses review whether they have a fallback communication method in place, so a single carrier outage does not bring operations to a stop.
