Google has released a series of updates to Google Workspace this month that give administrators stronger controls over data security, compliance, and AI features. Here is what has changed that your IT team or managed IT provider should be aware of.

• DLP Policy Automation: Google has introduced API endpoints that let administrators programmatically create, update, and delete data loss prevention (DLP) rules. This means DLP policies can now be automated and deployed at scale without manual configuration in the admin console — useful for businesses managing data compliance across large teams. • Google Vault Now Covers Gemini: Google Vault, the compliance and eDiscovery tool, now supports retention rules and litigation holds for Gemini app conversations on web and mobile. For businesses in regulated industries, this is significant — AI assistant conversations are now subject to the same retention policies as email and Chat messages.
• Block Apple Intelligence on iOS: Admins can now restrict Apple's Intelligence writing tools on managed iOS devices, preventing them from processing content within Google Docs and Sheets. This stops corporate data from being passed to Apple's AI systems on employee devices — an important control for businesses with data sensitivity or compliance requirements.
• Google Voice Call Notes: Google Voice now offers automatic call transcription, key point summaries, and action item capture for Standard and Premier customers. Rolling out from 16 June 2026.
